Electric trains will soon connect London and Edinburgh offering a sustainable option of travelling between two of the UK’s capital cities.

The five electric intercity trains, which will begin carrying passengers from autumn 2021, are being manufactured by Hitachi Rail at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

The company says the new service will provide a lower carbon alternative to flying, as the trains will travel between cities fully in electric mode.

Ross Nagle, Chief Operating Officer of Rolling Stock UK at Hitachi Rail: “It is an important step as we increase our manufacturing capabilities and upskill our workforce at Newton Aycliffe, which includes an £8.5m investment in new welding and painting facilities.”
