Cadent to finish pipe repairs before World Black Pudding Throwing Championships

The gas network says maintenance of a Victorian-era pipe in Lancashire will be completed by the end of the week

Gas network Cadent says it will finish pipe repairs in Lancashire before the World Black Pudding Throwing Championships are held.

The firm is nearing the end of a project to replace a Victorian-era underground pipe that has been used to bring gas to homes for more than 140 years.

The old, rusting metal pipe is being replaced with a new, durable version, helping to ensure safety and boost the resilience of the region’s energy supply.

Teams arrived on site in July to begin work to replace 450 metres of the infrastructure under Bolton Street in Ramsbottom.

The work was timed for the summer holiday period in effort to minimise disruption and to avoid clashing with the World Black Pudding Throwing Championships, which involves competitors trying to knock down the most Yorkshire puddings by throwing three black puddings at them.

Cadent remains on track to leave site as planned at the end of this week.
