You could be missing a trick by not motivating your middle managers with targets suggests the man behind the Sustainable FM Index released this week.
Sunil Shah at Acclaro Advisory believes a missing piece of the puzzle may be linking sustainable targets to how people progress in their careers.
Shah told ELN: “What’s become clear is senior management are engaged in the subject through policies and strategies they’ve developed.
“What’s missing is the ability to translate that via middle managers into the day to day business.”
He argues they may take being green more seriously if it will help impress their bosses: “If you’re successful in sustainability within a business it doesn’t help you get promoted. Sustainability hasn’t been built into the business strategy.”
